We use San Diego County’s official parcel boundary data from SanGIS, the same data the county assessor’s office uses. Your premises address is geocoded to a precise location, and we identify every residential parcel whose boundary falls within 550 feet of your building. That 550 is the 500 feet ABC requires plus a 50-foot margin of our own, so your count is a 550-foot count. This is parcel-boundary accurate, not a rough estimate.

Because we would rather send an extra notice than miss a required one. 500 feet is the law and 550 feet is our decision: ABC has never asked anyone to mail to 550 feet. The extra 50 feet is a deliberate round ten percent, not a figure derived from a measured error rate. It covers imprecise parcel geometry, and it covers the case where your licensed area extends past your building wall, because ABC measures from the outer edge of that licensed area rather than from the wall. Since we bill $1.50 per notice, the wider ring is a real cost to you, so we say so plainly here rather than burying it. We do not offer a 500-foot option.

Every address is validated through USPS CASS certification before we mail. Addresses that can’t be verified are flagged for review — we resolve the issue before anything goes out. A returned notice could raise questions with your ABC licensing rep, so we catch problems upfront.

If the mistake is ours — a missed address we should have caught, or a notice mailed incorrectly — we re-mail the affected notices at no additional charge. Every filing is reviewed by a person before it goes out, and we carry errors-and-omissions (E&O) insurance behind that. We can’t control USPS delivery times or errors in county source data (see our Terms), but the execution of your mailing is on us.

As early as you reasonably can. ABC’s own instructions say to mail the 500-foot notices as soon as possible, because the 30-day protest period on your application starts on the later of two dates — when you post the notice at your premises or when you mail the notices — so the sooner you mail, the sooner that window can begin and close. There’s no separate NoticeRun deadline: since we typically mail within 1–2 business days, you can start your filing as soon as your premises address is confirmed.
